1. Brie [Pronounced as Bree]

A soft and creamy cheese with a bloomy rind, brie originates from the region of Île- de-France in France. It’s a crowd favourite, all thanks to its delicate flavour and velvety texture. To appreciate this cheese at its finest, we suggest you try making a delectable Brie and Apple Grilled Cheese Sandwich. All you need to do is layer slices of crisp red apple and slices of brie between two slices of whole-grain bread. Toast this sandwich in a pan with some butter until golden brown. The heavenly combination of creamy brie with the sweet-tart apple is pure joy!

2. Cheddar Cheese (Pronounced As Ched-Er)

A semi-hard cheese with a rich, nutty flavour, Cheddar’s origins are located in England. It is sold in various ageing profiles, ranging from mild to extra sharp.  Cheddar Cheese is incredibly versatile and can be used to create numerous flavourful dishes. We think its flavours shine through in a classic comfort food — loaded baked potatoes. 

Take a big potato, poke holes in it with a fork and bake until tender, then slice it open and poke the inside with a fork to fluff it up. Top this with a generous handful of grated cheddar, crispy bacon bits (you can skip this), and a dollop of sour cream or Greek yoghurt. Indulgence at its finest!

3. Mozzarella (Pronounced As Moht-Suh-Rel-Luh)

This soft, stretchy cheese is a staple in Italian cuisine and is known for its mild and milky flavour. While it is commonly known as ‘pizza cheese’, let’s go one step beyond the obvious to explore mozzarella’s wonderful flavours in a Caprese Salad Skewer. 

A fun way to consume salad, all you need to do is thread cherry tomatoes, fresh basil leaves and bite-sized fresh mozzarella onto small wooden skewers. Top these off with a balsamic glaze and sprinkle a bit of salt and pepper.  The combination of fresh ingredients and creamy cheese will mentally transport you to an Italian coast.

4. Gruyere (Pronounced As Groo-Yair)

A semi-hard cheese with a distinctively nutty and slightly sweet taste, Gruyere is a Swiss speciality. It can be used in many dishes, but we suggest a classic one straight from the Alps — Fondue. 

Making a fondue can be intimidating, but it really couldn’t be simpler. Just rub the inside of a fondue pot with garlic, add grated Gruyere cheese, a splash of white wine, and a touch of nutmeg. 

Melt this over a low flame and serve with bite-sized pieces of crusty bread, steamed and seasoned vegetables and boiled or fried potatoes. A taste so luscious, you’ll want to drown yourself in it.

5. Goat Cheese

Also known as Chevre, Goat cheese has a distinct flavour profile that is tangy, creamy, and slightly acidic. Originating in the Mediterranean region, this cheese has become wildly popular worldwide. 

We suggest incorporating this beautiful ingredient into a Spinach and Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken Breast. Simply make a mixture of wilted spinach, crumbled goat cheese, and minced garlic. 

Now, butterfly the chicken breast, stuff it with the cheese mixture, secure the edges with toothpicks or a skewer, and season the breast generously with salt and pepper.  Bake the chicken in the oven until it’s cooked through (not overcooked). Every bite is guaranteed to give a burst of flavour.
