June comes with heat, humidity, and the relieving monsoons, which create the perfect atmosphere to sit indoors and soak in the wholesomeness of the season. June, for a whole lot of people across India, is Pride month, and while the marches, the flags, and the glitter get all the attention, there's another, quieter way, but no less powerful way to celebrate Pride 2026.
These are happening in restaurants and cafes, the kind where you can hold hands across the table, be loud about who you are, and not once look over your shoulder. India's LGBTQIA+ community has long built its own safe spaces, many of which are known to the public and loud (like Kitty Su), and some are a more quaint affair that are not just bars and nightclubs, but neighbourhood cafes, microbreweries, and fine-dining spots where inclusivity isn't a policy on paper but a lived reality.
There are few places in Mumbai as steadfastly welcoming as Mondy's, as it's affectionately known across Colaba. The walls are covered in the iconic cartoon murals of the late Mario Miranda, giving the place a warm, retro and artsy feel that is inviting. Grab keema pav, spaghetti, burgers, and cold beer here.
