Uppu Kozhukattai is an authentic, spicy dish made with rice flour and coconut, tempered with lentils, mustard seeds, cumin, green chillies, and curry leaves. This dish differs from sweet varieties in that it has a mildly spiced taste, and steaming the dumplings gives them a unique soft, tender texture. Rice flour and coconut make up a relatively light dish but satisfying dish. This dish can be served during Ganesh Chaturthi. For Vinayaka Chaturthi, start with the recipe; rice flour needs to be cooked in salted water to make dough. The prepared dough is combined with a coconut-based mixture used for cooking; after that, the dough is formed into small dumplings, which are steamed until hard. This mixture adds flavour and texture to the dish, with lentils providing crunch and curry leaves, green chillies, and asafoetida adding aroma. Uppu kozhukattai can be part of any festival meal for Vinayaka Chaturthi, especially when different types of kozhukattai are made as offerings, and can be served hot as Ganapati prasad, a festive snack, or a healthy breakfast.
