Oats porridge is a traditional morning meal that manages to be both comforting and nutritious at the same time. It’s light and creamy, with limitless potential for customisation thanks to the wide variety of fruits and nuts that can be added. On hectic weekdays or lazy weekends, a cup of hot oats porridge is the ideal fuel, as it keeps you full for longer and contains fibre, protein, and vital minerals.

Ingredients

1 cupRolled oats
2 cupsAlmond or soy milk
½ cupWater
2 tsp Jaggery or honey (adjust to taste)
¼ tspCardamom powder (optional)
Fresh fruits, nuts and seeds

Description - Step 1

Step 1: Combine Ingredients

Heat milk and water in a saucepan over low heat, stirring from time to time. Combine rolled oats and stir well.

Step 2: Cook Oats

Let it simmer for 5-6 minutes, lowering the heat. Turn off the heat when the oats have soaked up the majority of the liquid and the porridge looks thickened.

Step 3: Sweeten

Sweeten the oats with honey or jaggery, as desired. Add an aromatic, toasty touch with a sprinkle of cardamom powder.

Step 4: Add Toppings

To enhance the nutritional value and flavour of the porridge, top it up with fresh fruit like blackberries, strawberries and bananas, along with some crunchy nuts or seeds.
