Jhal muri is one of Kolkata’s most loved street snacks, known for its sharp flavours and crunchy texture. A mix of puffed rice, spiced oil, peanuts, boiled chana, and chopped vegetables creates a quick and refreshing bowl that is light yet satisfying. The secret lies in mustard oil and the unique spice mix.

Step 1: Prepare Spiced Oil

Heat mustard oil in a non-stick pan until it reaches the smoking point. Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, fennel seeds, asafoetida, and 1 teaspoon red chilli powder. Sauté until aromatic. Take the pan off the heat and strain the oil into a bowl. This spiced oil gives Jhal Muri a bold flavour.
