Love parathas and Halloween? Then let’s combine the two! This creative version of paratha uses a pumpkin-flavoured dough and shapes it into Halloween jack-o'-lanterns for Halloween. Why jack-o'-lanterns? Originally carved from turnips in Ireland to ward off evil spirits, they’ve today become symbolic of Halloween.

1 cupYellow pumpkin (chopped)
1Green chilli
½ tspTurmeric powder
½ tspRed chilli powder (for colour and spice)
¼ tspGaram masala
½ tspCumin powder
½ tspAjwain (carom seeds)
1 tspSalt
2 tspOil (for dough)
as requiredWater

Description - Step 1

Step 1: Prepare the pumpkin purée

  • Boil 1 cup chopped pumpkin with about ¾ cup water until soft.

  • Cool slightly and blend with the green chilli into a smooth purée.

  • For a more vivid orange colour, stir in a pinch of Kashmiri red chilli powder or a drop of orange food colour.
