A contemporary twist on the traditional Indian dessert, red velvet modak was created especially for Ganesh Chaturthi. This colourful treat combines a soft outer shell, a pleasantly sweet coconut inside, and the well-known red velvet flavour. It’s easy to make, visually striking, and perfect for festive celebrations.

1 cupAll-purpose flour (maida)
1 tbspCocoa powder
2 tbspPowdered sugar
2 tbspButter or ghee
2–3 drops Red food colour (or beetroot juice)
¼ cupMilk (as needed to knead)
A pinchSalt
1 cupGrated fresh coconut
½ cupJaggery (grated or powdered)
½ tspCardamom powder
1 tspGhee
1 tbspchopped nuts (optional – cashews, almonds)

Description - Step 1

Step 1: Prepare the Coconut Filling

  • Heat 1 tsp ghee in a pan.

  • Add grated coconut and jaggery.

  • Stir continuously until the jaggery melts and blends with the coconut.

  • Add cardamom powder and chopped nuts (optional).

  • Cook until the mixture thickens slightly.

  • Set aside to cool.
