½ cupChana dal (Bengal gram lentil)
2 tbspUrad dal (split black gram)
¼ cupToor dal (pigeon pea)
½ cupYoghurt (curd)
as requiredWater (for soaking and grinding)
1 cupBottle gourd (lauki) (grated) (For the Mix)
¼ cupCarrot (grated)
½ cupCabbage (grated)
1Green chilli (finely chopped)
½ tspGinger paste
3 tbsp Coriander leaves (finely chopped)
½ tspSugar
¼ tspKashmiri red chilli powder
¼ tspTurmeric powder
2 tspOil
to tasteSalt
1 tspFruit salt
2 tspOil For Tempering (Optional, low oil)
¾ tspMustard seeds
5–6Curry leaves
1 tspSesame seeds
½ tspCumin seeds
a pinch Gluten-free hing (Asafoetida)

Description - Step 1

Step 1: Soak and grind

  • Wash and soak the rice and all the dals for at least 4 hours.

  • Once they’ve soaked, drain them and blend everything into a coarse paste, adding some curd and a splash of water as needed.
