FAQs

Akki roti is primarily made from rice flour, mixed with herbs like dill leaves or coriander, basic kitchen spices like cumin, and commonly available vegetables like onions.

Yes, akki roti is good for health. Since akki roti recipe uses rice flour, it’s gluten-free and thus easier to digest. The addition of vegetables and herbs makes it a nutritious, fibrous, and mineral-rich flatbread. However, it’s also carb-rich and thus should be consumed in moderation. For a healthier version, use minimal oil when cooking and add more veggies to the batter.

Enjoy akki roti with spicy chutneys, pickles, or plain curd for breakfast, or a light lentil curry during lunch. You can even pair akki roti with a mutton or chicken stew, if you’re looking for something more sustaining. You can support the meal with filter coffee or a cool chaach.

Add rice flour, along with your choice of vegetables (chopped), herbs and spices to a large bowl and mix it with water to form the dough. Take small portions of the dough and pat (not roll) them into discs. Now, cook the disc with oil or ghee on a hot, greased tawa. This is how you make akki roti at home.
