Dal Tadka Rice is a classic Indian comfort food made by pairing creamy, spiced dal with aromatic jeera rice. The combination of three dals, smoky tempering, and fluffy basmati rice creates a hearty and flavourful dish that works well for lunch, dinner, or even in a lunchbox.

3–4Green Chilli
to tasteSalt
½ tspTurmeric Powder
1 tbspGinger (chopped)
1 tbspGarlic (chopped)
2.5 cups approxWater
3 tbspGhee
1 tspCumin Seeds
2Red Chilli
1 ½ Onion
1Tomato (chopped)
1 tspKashmiri Red Chilli Powder
½ tspCoriander Powder
a pinchGaram Masala
a pinchKasuri Methi Powder
½ tspDry Mango Powder
1 tbspButter
small handful Fresh Coriander (chopped)
½ tspAsafoetida
1 cupBasmati Rice (For Jeera Rice )
to tasteSalt
1 tspLemon Juice
2 tbspGhee
1 tspCumin Seeds
small handfulFresh Coriander (chopped)

Description - Step 1

Step 1: Soak and boil dal

Wash the dals well until the water runs clear. Soak them in fresh water for 30–60 minutes. Drain and pressure cook with green chilli, salt, turmeric, ginger, and water for 3–4 whistles. Let it depressurise, remove the chilli, and stir the dal smooth.
