Reserve it for chocolate day during the Valentine week, or make it for dessert for a special dinner for two. This eggless chocolate mousse is silky, smooth, airy, and indulgent with the goodness of chocolate enhanced by the citrus flavour of orange, a combination known for its aphrodisiac qualities. Made with just four simple ingredients – dark chocolate, heavy cream, orange juice and honey – this mousse requires no eggs, gelatin, or fancy techniques. You simply melt chocolate in hot cream, fold in light-as-air whipped cream infused with orange juice and zest, then refrigerate and devour it after a perfect candlelit dinner.
Take half of the heavy cream (1 cup) in a small pan and heat it until it is close to the boiling point, but do not let it boil. Remove the pan from the heat once the cream starts to steam.
Description - Step 2
Melt the chocolate
Add chopped chocolate to the hot cream and stir gently, for the chocolate to melt completely. Set aside to cool slightly.
Description - Step 3
Prepare the orange cream
Take a medium-sized mixing bowl and add the remaining 1 cup of cream with orange juice, orange zest, and maple syrup or honey. Or, add it to the bowl of a stand mixer.
Description - Step 4
Whip the orange cream
Whip orange cream with the stand mixer or with an electric whisk until you get soft peaks. You can also do it manually, by hand, using a whisk. Be careful not to overwhip the cream, or you will end up with a grainy batch.
Description - Step 5
Combine the chocolate and cream mixtures
Check if the chocolate mixture has cooled by now, then add it to the whipped cream. Fold in by hand using a spoon or spatula, until no uneven streaks remain.
Description - Step 6
Chill the mousse
Pour the ready chocolate mousse into ramekins or glasses. Chill for a minimum of two hours or ideally, overnight.
