Aloo tikki chaat is a beloved and widely enjoyed Indian street food, particularly in North India. This dish features crispy potato patties (aloo tikki) topped with zesty tamarind chutney, fiery green chutney, refreshing yogurt, and crunchy sev. Over time, it has become popular not just throughout India but also in Indian eateries around the globe. It is known for its burst of flavours-spicy, tangy, sweet, and crunchy all at once.

4 tbsp rice flour or 2 tbsp corn flour

½ tspKashmiri red chilli powder
½ tspDry mango powder (amchur)

½ tspChaat masala
¼ cupChopped coriander
as requiredSalt
3 to 4 tbspoil (or add as required)
½ cupYoghurt (whisked) For Chaat Assembly
as requiredGreen chutney (mint & coriander)

Description - Step 1

Step 1: Boil and Mash Potatoes

  • Pressure cook or boil potatoes until soft. 

  • Peel and mash them in a bowl.

  • Let the mashed potatoes cool completely.

Description - Step 2

Step 2: Prepare the Tikki Mixture

  • Add rice flour or corn flour, turmeric powder, ginger, red chilli powder, cumin powder, chaat masala, dry mango powder and salt as per taste. Also add chopped coriander leaves and mix well to form a smooth dough-like mixture.

Description - Step 3

Step 3: Shape and Fry Tikkis

  • Divide into equal portions and flatten into round patties or tikkis.

  • Heat oil on a tawa (or skillet) and shallow-fry on medium flame until golden brown and crispy on both sides.

Description - Step 4

Step 4: Assemble the Chaat

  • Place 2–3 hot tikkis on a plate.

  • Add whisked yogurt generously.

  • Drizzle some green chutney and tamarind chutney.

  • Top with chopped onions, tomatoes, coriander and sev.

  • Sprinkle chaat masala and black salt as per taste. 

  • Garnish with some pomegranate seeds (optional)
