Mango Pappu is a flavorful South Indian lentil dish infused with ripe mangoes, turmeric, and spices, perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Toor dal ( pigeon peas)
1 cup
Raw mangoes
1
Green chilies

onion, finely chopped
1 medium-sized
Turmeric powder
1/2 tsp
Red chili powder
1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds
1/2 tsp
Bay leaf

Asafoetida (hing)
A pinch
Ghee
2 tbsp
Salt
to taste
Fresh coriander leaves
for garnish

Directions

Roast the Lentils

Wash the toor dal properly. Roast it in a pan.

Cook the Dal

Take a pressure cooker and add the chopped raw mango pieces and the roasted toor dal. Add some water and season with turmeric powder and a pinch of salt. Cook till the mango pieces and dal become tender.

Cook the Tempering

Take a separate pan and heat some oil. Add the cumin seeds, crushed garlic cloves, curry leaves, bay leaf, chopped onions, green chilies, dried red chilies, and salt. Let these ingredients release their flavors.

Assemble the Pappu

Pour the mango and dal mix over the tempering mixture. Add well to meld the flavors. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and then serve.
