Onion paratha or pyaz paratha is a warm and comforting Indian flatbread packed with spiced onions and cooked to a lovely golden hue. Description - Step 1

Prepare the dough

  • In a deep bowl, mix the chakki atta, oil, ajwain, and salt. 
  • Add water little by little and knead into a soft, smooth dough. 
  • Cover it and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Description - Step 2

Make the onion stuffing

  • In another bowl, combine onions, green chillies, coriander, garam masala, red chilli powder, turmeric, and salt. 
  • Mix well to get an evenly seasoned stuffing.

Description - Step 3

Portion the dough and filling

  • Divide the rested dough into four equal portions. 
  • Similarly, divide the onion mixture into four equal portions for even stuffing.

Description - Step 4

Fill and seal the paratha

  • Roll a dough ball into a small 3-inch circle. 
  • Place one portion of stuffing in the centre, gather the edges, and seal tightly to form a stuffed ball.
  • Repeat the same for the remaining dough ball.

Description - Step 5

Roll and shape

  • Lightly dust with flour and gently roll each stuffed dough ball into a 6-inch circle, applying even pressure to avoid tearing.

Cook the parathas

  • Heat a tawa on medium flame. 
  • Place the rolled paratha and cook each with a bit of oil. 
  • Flip and press gently, cooking until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
