Description - Step 1

Prepare the Cake Layer

Cut the sponge cake into cubes and place them at the base of a deep glass bowl. Drizzle lightly with sugar syrup or fruit juice to moisten the cake without making it soggy. This forms the first soft, flavourful layer of the trifle.
