Recipe For Kids: A Wholesome Breakfast Idea

Healthy Ragi Pancakes are a smart way to make millet-based breakfasts more appealing for kids without compromising on nutrition. Ragi, or finger millet, is naturally rich in calcium, iron, and fibre, supporting bone development, digestion, and sustained energy in growing children. However, its earthy flavour can sometimes feel unfamiliar to kids. Adding cocoa gently balances that taste, turning these pancakes into something they genuinely look forward to eating. This dish is perfect for school mornings, weekend breakfasts, or lunchbox meals. These ragi pancakes with some chocolate feel indulgent while still being nourishing.

Ingredients

UNITSIngredients
1 cupRagi flour
¼ cupWhole wheat flour
¾ cupMilk (adjust as needed)
2 tbspCurd
2 tbsp/to tasteJaggery powder
1 tspCocoa powder (unsweetened)
1½ tbspDark chocolate chips (optional)
1 tspBaking powder
a pinchCardamom powder
a pinchSalt
for cookingOil or butter

Follow
Directions

Description - Step 1

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a bowl, add ragi flour, whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, jaggery powder, baking powder, cardamom powder, and salt. Mix well to distribute the cocoa evenly.

Description - Step 2

Prepare The Batter

Add curd and milk gradually, whisking to form a smooth, lump-free batter. The batter should be thick but pourable. Fold in dark chocolate chips if using.

Description - Step 3

Rest The Batter

Allow the batter to rest for 5 minutes. This helps the ragi hydrate fully and results in softer pancakes.

Description - Step 4

Cook The Pancakes

Heat a non-stick pan or tawa on low to medium heat and grease lightly with oil or butter. Pour a ladleful of batter and gently spread into a small circle. Cook on low flame until bubbles appear, then flip and cook until done.

Description - Step 5

Serve Warm

Remove from pan and serve warm. Repeat with remaining batter.
